My story

Keenist Beginnings:

I'm Stephanie Rome. My passion for holistic health was ignited by having to struggle through my own [un]fair share of health problems, namely digestive issues (such as bloating and constipation) and hormonal imbalances (namely PCOS and amenorrhea). It took me about seven years of wrestling with chronic symptoms to acknowledge I needed to make a change in both my diet and my lifestyle. A BIG one.

While living in Sydney, I began seeing a holistic health practitioner who helped me identify and treat the root cause of my health issues using a “food as medicine” approach. I became so enthralled with everything I was learning that I decided to make a career pivot and go back to school to become a holistic nutritionist and health coach. I launched my practice in Denver in 2015 and never looked back! I’m super passionate about helping others experience the joy I’ve found in good health. And I’ve helped over 500 clients achieve their health and wellness goals.

I created Keenist with the mission to inspire and empower you to achieve greater health and happiness by optimizing the way you think about food and your lifestyle. Through blog posts, recipe books, cleanse guides, approved products and useful health resources, Keenist hopes be your go-to place for healthy living inspo and tools that nourish your body, mind and spirit!

FAQ's

Holistic Nutrition Consulting:

What are the benefits of Keenist’s holistic approach?

Holistic is characterized by the treatment of the whole person. While working together, we put your nutrition plan front and center, however in order to reach your goals, we must account for other factors that influence your overall health (sleep, stress, exercise, etc.).

How is Keenist unique?

My nutrition approach starts with one key principle….we are all unique! The “one size fits all” approach doesn’t work for nutrition. Keenist’s mission is to help you tap into the food and lifestyle that’s optimal for you. To teach you how to start paying attention and listening deeply to the signs and signals from your body and mind. You are your own health expert so, instead of telling you what to do, I give you the knowledge, support and tools you need to take control of your health!

What to expect from the free intro session?

We use this session as an opportunity to get to know each other and discuss your wellness goals. We’ll review your complete health history so when the program starts, we can hit the ground running. This is also a great time to get all your questions answered about how the nutrition consulting process works.

What to expect from working together?

You can expect to feel supported every step of the way while you make sustainable diet and lifestyle changes. I’ll guide you through your personalized program at a pace that is comfortable for you. And I’ll make sure you stay on track with twice monthly meetings and accountability check-ins along the way. By the end of the program, most clients achieve (and often exceed!) the health goals they set for themselves in our first session!

What types of clients have you worked with?

I work with women and men of all ages with a wide range of health goals such as weight loss, optimizing digestion, healing hormonal imbalances (like managing PCOS and improving fertility), balancing blood sugar (sugar addiction, insulin resistance, pre-diabetes, diabetes), improving sleep and boosting energy.

What happens when my program finishes?

Most clients have developed the confidence and tools to maintain the healthy habits they created while working together. I am always available for “tune up” sessions whenever you need it.

Holistic Nutrition Goods:

What products can I purchase from Keenist now?

Why should I buy Keenist's recipe book and cleanses instead of using free resources online?

Because they’re Keenist-approved! The recipes in The Keenist Cookbook ebook and cleanses are meticulously designed to use high-quality ingredients and well-balanced macronutrient profiles. Stephanie created these resources using the same nutrition principles she recommends to clients in her consulting practice.

Keenist Background:

What education and/or training do you have?

I am a Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) and Board Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS). I have a Master’s degree in Clinical Nutrition and Integrative Health. I am also a Certified Holistic Health Coach, Ayurvedic Lifestyle Counselor, Yoga Instructor, and Natural Foods Chef. To learn more, see my list of credentials above.

How did you get started doing Holistic Nutrition Consulting?

The seed was planted when I was living in Sydney and began seeing a holistic health practitioner because of digestive issues and hormonal imbalances. It was the best decision I’ve ever made because not only did she help me heal myself using food as medicine but also she opened my eyes to the world of integrative health care which treats the root cause, not just the symptoms. I became so enthralled by holistic health that I decided to go to nutrition school and while there, I started a blog as a way to share my passion for healthy food and the knowledge I was learning in my courses. Once I finished school and moved to Denver, I launched my nutrition consulting practice.

What’s your daily routine?

One of the principles in my life and in my work is that I really try to walk my talk. I don’t ask my clients to do things that I couldn’t or wouldn’t do, or haven’t done myself. I believe a healthy lifestyle encompasses far more than just what we eat so I aim to do things that nourish my body, mind and spirit on a daily basis. For me, that starts with making sleep a priority by going to bed at 10pm and getting 8+ hours of quality sleep. If I don’t, it’s much harder to make good diet and lifestyle choices the next day!

Upon rising, I do 15 minutes of meditation, then have a cup of warm water with the juice of half a lemon to jumpstart my metabolism and give my immune system a boost of vitamin C. I feel best when I do some exercise first thing in the morning so I try to fit in at least 20 minutes of movement (e.g. walking, running, yoga, HIIT) before starting my day. And ideally it’s outside in the sun!

I eat three meals a day and ensure they are well-balanced with protein, healthy fat and fiber from lots of veggies! I sip on plain, filtered water or Keenist herbal tea all day to ensure I’m hydrated which is key for mental clarity and minimizing cravings! At some point during the day, I find time for a 3-5 minute meditation. It’s like hitting the reset button on my stress levels! I’m much more focused and productive after just these few minutes of quiet time.

In the evenings, I enjoy going for a walk with my husband after dinner and sometimes succumbing to a little reality TV -- but always with my super cool blue-light blocking glasses on! :)
